Club Ride: Wye River
Join the MGCoV for the annual Wye River - Great Ocean Road ride down an amazing route, with scenic views and many winding roads.
Plan for the day for those only doing the 1-day ride with 2 return options.
(image below)
Gather at Westgate outbound before the bridge at the United Pie Face Servo at 8:30 am for a 9:00 am sharp departure.
We’ll meet Geelong members at the Waurn Ponds BP – not any other BP servo – only the BP at Waurn Ponds (for those confused last year).
We will depart there at 10:15am headed for Forrest.
From there down the squiggly hill to Skeene’s Creek to sniff the salty air and ride the GOR to the Wye Beach Hotel.
The hotel doesn’t take bookings, but we’ll find a table or three.
Wye Beach Hotel - Current Menu
People usually go their own way direct after lunch, or after a swim.
The run captain will be heading to Lorne for fuel then Dean’s marsh and round the back of Geelong (nice little road) for the last few corners before the god awful run up that god awful Geelong Freeway.
(Worst ride in Australia)
It is a 500+ km day but the Deans Marsh loop makes it worthwhile.
Return Option 01 via Geelong - Map Link
The other option is to make a beeline for the ferry via Barwon Heads + Ocean Grove - get across - and then ride up through Mt Martha - get to know the Peninsula a bit, then Frankston, and then Brighton via Nepean Highway.
Return Option 02 via Mornington - Map Link
